How I got into Glocks

Rate this Entry
Well, I started out on a whim. I was really into High Power cartridges at the time and happened to come upon a gen3 20 in a trade. It had a bunch of mods already done to it and I also added a set of night sights. At first, I was one of the "Whats so great about it" types, and then I received the 20 and I was bitten by the Glock bug. The next addition was a 2.5gen version of a 29, which took over primary CCW duty with an added set of XS Big Dots. Soon after I got the 29, a buddy of mine at work kept waving a 21SF in front of my nose. I wanted to resist, but after a big check payday after lots of overtime, I ended up adding the 21SF to my collection. It quickly became my favorite Glock and .45ACP. The accuracy with Winchester White Box 230gr ammo was just awesome.

A little over a year passed and I decided that I wanted a change in the CCW department. That and I was just not happy with the 29. It was just a little to big for my taste, that and it was just plainly too much of a hand pounder when I'd shoot it. So I decided to trade it off for something else and went to a snubbie in .357 for CCW duty for about the past 8 months.

Then I come up to a couple of weeks ago at two decisions. The first was that I was at a local pawn shop and in one of the cases there was a clean looking gen 3 23 and it was saying to me to just take it home. After a little pacing around the shop, and the consideration that it could be my new CCW with some added punch power and increased ammo capacity, I struck up a good deal and took it home with me. I had to replace the front night sight and I did a little trigger guard massaging to it and also added a tungsten guide rod. It is a pistol that has basically won me over as my most favorite pistol of all time. The second decision was that after a long time of talking about it, I have decided to start competing in IPSC. That ment that Id need a good shooter for the job. I thought about the 20, and was not very motivated to use it as a competition gun and after a little searching I was at the end of a trade of my 20 for a gen2 22. I am a lot happier with the feel of the 22 over the 20 and I cant wait for my first competition outing with it this coming Sunday.

Anyways, thats my Glocking experience as to date so far. Happy Shootin! Boomer.

Interesting story! Thanks for posting it...

Do they have different shooting classes for different caliber Glocks? I would think that a 9mm would always be the most accurate?

Sure, no prob, Im glad to be able to share my experience with Glocks, and glad to know someone is appreciative. I would have no idea of there being different caliber classes, but that is a interesting question. Especially for 9mm, I wouldnlt say that its the more accurate, but that its more controllable.

I was looking at your pictures in the picture forum and it looks like you have the .40 caliber Glock pistol models covered...

I'm still thinking about getting a 9mm 17 or 19, but also heavily considering a .40 too. Have you ever considered 9mm, or is it just too small for you? I wonder if the world is moving beyond the 9mm guns?
